In February 2017, the EC-LEDS program launched a new web platform—the RE Explorer portal. It provides renewable energy data, analytical tools, and technical assistance to developers, policymakers, and decision makers.
RE Explorer enables users to make meaningful decisions that support low-emission development and ultimately reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The portal provides access to the RE Explorer's flagship geospatial analysis tool for renewable energy development—the RE Data Explorer.
Developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the RE Data Explorer uses geospatial and spatiotemporal renewable energy data to visualize, execute, and support analysis of renewable energy potential under various user-defined scenarios. For example, a user scenario might assess the ability to deploy a certain technology when protected and urbanized areas are excluded or a minimum distance to transmission lines is specified.
The RE Data Explorer can inform prospecting, integrated planning, and policymaking to accelerate renewable energy deployment. The RE Data Explorer is designed for all users-no GIS experience required! The web portal provides training resources, interactive tutorials and access to the RE Explorer team through the Ask an Expert service to help you start using the tool.
